Friends & Groups
Add friends
Find people with search, contacts, recommendations, QR codes, and share links.
Actually Hangout is built around people you actually know. The People hub in the side menu has tabs for Friends, Close Friends, Requests, Contacts, and Recommendations, plus search when you want to look someone up by name or username.
Ways to find people
- Search: open People and use Find people to search by name or username. Results group friends, people already on the app, and contacts.
- Contacts: sync your address book to find friends already on the app. A consent screen always appears first. Names and numbers are uploaded only for matching and never sold. Contacts who aren't on the app yet can be invited by text.
- Recommendations: people you might know. Dismiss any you're not interested in.
- QR codes and links: scan a friend's profile QR code or open their share link.
Friend requests
Send a request from someone's profile; they can accept or decline. If they've turned on Require Phone Verification, you'll be asked for the last 4 digits of their phone number before the request sends, as proof you actually know them. You can turn the same protection on for yourself in Settings → Social Permissions.
Also in Social Permissions: Auto-Accept Friend Requests, Auto-Send Friend Requests to contacts who join, and Auto-Sync Contacts.
To unfriend someone, visit their profile. They won't be notified.
