Hangouts
Invitations and RSVPs
How invites work, who can invite whom, and what your RSVP means.
Responding to an invite
Invitations show up in the Invites tab and as notifications. Open the hangout and tap Accept or Decline. Once you've responded, your answer is locked in (the app doesn't currently let you change it), so give your calendar a quick look first.
You'll see other guests' responses on the hangout, including anyone who's marked as a maybe.
Roles
- Organizer: the creator. Edits the hangout, manages the guest list, and can always invite more people.
- Collaborator: helps plan. Collaborators can invite others when Collaboration Mode is on.
- Guest: invited to attend. Guests can't invite other people.
Who can see a hangout
Invite-only hangouts are visible to the organizer, collaborators, and invitees. Public-link hangouts can be opened by anyone with the link, even people who don't have the app.
Staying on track
With "Add hangouts to my calendar" on in Settings → Security (on by default), hangouts you accept or create are added to your device calendar automatically and stay updated. You can also add any hangout manually from its detail page. Keep the Hangout reminders notification toggle on to get nudges before it starts.
