Location privacy
Location is optional, used only while you're in the app, and maskable for PinDrops.
How the app uses location
Location permission is optional and only used while you're using the app. It powers nearby experiences, PinDrops, and local suggestions. Without it, everything still works. You can even drop a pin manually by long-pressing the map.
PinDrop location masking
Turn on "Mask your exact location when dropping pins" in Settings → Security and your PinDrops share an approximate area instead of your exact spot. Friends know the neighborhood, not the table you're sitting at.
Extra guardrails
- Before you share a public link to a post with a precise location, the app warns you.
- Device calendar sync for conflict warnings is read-only and local. Your existing calendar events stay on your phone and are never uploaded. Separately, "Add hangouts to my calendar" in Settings → Security can write hangouts you accept or create to your device calendar.
